READING SKILLS

This is the information age, and we are bombarded with written text.  So, knowing how to read with speed and comprehension is critical to all aspects of our lives.  In our Reading Skills course, students learn skills and strategies that enable them to read workplace, academic and settlement materials and documents quickly and effectively. The skills and strategies include skimming and scanning, using word identification techniques, summarizing and paraphrasing, inferring meaning, and recognizing persuasive techniques.  Students also develop the ability to think critically and analytically through a variety of interactive, student-led activities.
