What students need to know:
Attendance: Your attendance and punctuality will be monitored. Please inform your teacher by email if you will be late or absent from class. Ask your teacher how to catch up on the information you missed. You must attend a minimum of 85% of possible classes to receive a report at the end of session. Late arrivals and early departures from class are NOT acceptable. Your teacher will explain about allowable absences. If you do not meet attendance requirements, you will not be allowed to continue the class.
Withdrawal from a Class: Please email your teacher and give the reason if you must withdraw from a course. Reasons for withdrawal often include childcare needs, changes in employment, new education or training options. If you do not give notice of your withdraw from your course, you may not be allowed to enroll in the course again.
Washrooms are located down the main hall past the elevator.
Fire Evacuation Procedure: If the fire alarm rings, we must use the stairs to evacuate the building.
- There are two sets of stairs. One is located to the right of the elevator, on the south side of the building, and another is to the left of the elevator, on the north side of the building. Follow your teacher’s lead and instructions.
- Do not take drinks or bags with you as these are dangerous in the stairwell.
- Once you exit the building, go to the meeting place in the lobby of the Radisson Hotel at the south-west corner of Portage and Smith.
- When it is safe to re-enter the building, everyone will be allowed back in.
If you are unable to walk down 15 flights of stairs in the event of a fire alarm, please notify your teacher at the beginning of session. We will assign monitors to help you.
Respectful School: All students and staff must be treated with respect and have the right to a safe and healthy school environment. If you have any questions or concerns in this regard, please speak to your teacher. If the situation is not resolved, speak to the head teacher or CEO.
Safe Walk: Downtown Watch ambassadors will walk you to or from your car or bus stop. The service is free. Call SafeWalk at 958-SAFE (7233) at least 30 minutes before you require the service to make arrangements. Or visit http://downtownwinnipegbiz.com/programs-services/safety/ for more information.
